I dream of ice cream

{NOTE: Some men just want to watch the world burn, some just want to eat cinnamon buns and ice cream.}

I fell asleep in ice cream, twice this week.

The first time around, I had a nice episode of Doctor who playing and a tub of Ben and Jerry’s ‘Half baked’ ice cream to myself before my roomies entered the house and woke me up. It worried me that I couldn’t remember when I passed out. The second time around, I was alone in the house yet again whilst my roomies left to pick up a few friends from the metro station and they came back to find me sleeping in an ice cream puddle on the bed. Not that bizarre as this isn’t the first time my friends have found me passed out with an open laptop else food around, but I tend to remember feeling sleepy, forcing myself to stay awake and to watch another episode or to read another article. However, this time I remember being wide awake, all cozy and planning everything I’d get done before sleeping and then just blank. Continue reading

Froot Loop weekend…

(Note: I managed to make a cringe worthy memory by pronouncing Brooklyn 99 as Brooklyn ninety nine over a conversation with my sister and then defending the error.)

“How do you save a drowning fish?

Throw a few fruit loops in the water!”

2016 seems to follow a very vibrant colour pattern spilled over from 2015. Coldplay’s new song ‘Hymn for the weekend’, the Suicide Squad trailer and posters, Superbowl half time show, Black versus Blue (BvS), Red vs Blue (Civil War), Red vs Black (Daredevil vs the Punisher) and then there’s just the forever alone red (deadpool). X men Apocalypse if you count Psylocke and Jubilee putting up a light show. Really hope that the movie doesn’t disappoint. What made Colossus stand out in Deadpool more than any other X men film he’s appeared in is that he was given lines and much more purpose than just serving as the bruiser on the team, something that the X men films seem to be missing other than ‘First Class’. I was so excited to see ‘Blink’ in Days of Future past only to be disappointed with her absence. I can’t leave out Jessica Jones’s purple, that colour appeals to one too many people I know. This post, unlike the 6 seasons of ‘Lost’ has a point somewhere. *I kid*

*Hometown Glory*

Well, I’m still looping ‘Hymn for the weekend’ on YouTube. It’s visually appealing, as for the lyrics Continue reading

Sitting Tight

{The Beatles song at the end of this post is stuck in my head!}

Hello there! I’ve postponed my daily chores till this post is written and up for you (kee!) to read. That title, I’d do anything to get out of doing my chores. They can wait. Whilst I’m on that topic, I recently had to wait around an hour for my friends to show up at a spot that they decided upon. Is that sentence correct? I don’t know. What I do know is that even though I walked around in circles completely lost, I still managed to make it on time. I waited, and then waited some more. I realized that this isn’t the first time I’ve had to wait for everyone to show up. This isn’t college where a party is said to start at 4 pm but then 4 pm really means it starts around 7 pm, which is when everyone shows up. Nope, we’re definitely out of college with a busy schedule that involves watching Ellen and sleeping. [Context: we had a curfew at 9 pm which required us back in our dorms, so any party had to be before 9 pm.]

So there I was waiting under the roof of a store Continue reading

The day I lost wandering

{Beware: A lot of selfies}

Hello there, I just found a whole new set of editing features in my tool bar. I’ve always been bugged by the absence of any text justification, and well, I can’t describe the satisfaction of finally having it all aligned. It’s like finding new stationary. It’s going to take a while to get over it. Look at these coloured fonts! Aside from that, in my weekly update, I attended a dessert pop up that was truly disappointing. The upside was meeting up with two friends who managed to make it. My previous post covered the disappointment that all of us felt regarding the event.

Former roomie who loves miley. Might. I’m not sure.

A Squibs kitchen

{Two weeks too late: I’ve been busy getting documents together for my visa, apart from sleeping}

First day into the baking spree and I did most of what was planned on the bake-it list. I began the day with a walk around my area gathering a few ingredients that the first make shift patron, the ‘Squib’ couldn’t gather herself, ingredients that were commonly within reach of my house. Although I was a bit baffled when she emphasized on getting the curd, which amongst every ingredient on the list, it wasn’t necessarily essential. Cue Bombay’s humidity, an absorbent tshirt and a weather notification on the phone signalling the use of sunscreen or an umbrella due to high UV rays, a bit bothersome even though I ignore it.

  A short journey, 6 stations away and thanks to google maps, I found myself in the right lane. What came next sent me off balance Continue reading

The Bake-it list

I spent the past two days planning the next two weeks. Don’t know how much I’ll get done, but till then everything looks splendid I must say. I’ve got a short break before I eventually kick start working again, so in that time I’ve decided to *drumroll* bake myself out of boredome. What? that was drumroll worthy. Hit a slight glitch with that though, I’m out of ingredients, say what? Yeah, I come back home from Hogwarts with a light wallet to find an empty pantry. Probably what Greek citizens felt like returning back home. Quite serious, isn’t it, though the T-rex (oddly funny friend) believes that it’s what the world is talking about, hence I should write about it. Tardy task, since I don’t really go deep into any political/economical drama in the real world. I had a tough time following ‘House of Cards’,  the technical talk always went over my head, as long as I understood the big picture, it was all fine. Thank Robin Wright and Kevin Spacey for their charisma, else I’d have bunked on the show on the first episode.

Dios mío! Look at that

I’ve taken up learning spanish. “Dios mío! mira ese tope.”

Things that happened this past week:
It’s started to rain, and it spells ‘trouble’ for all the people that snort stuff, including some hillbillies who’ve started lining up maggi noodles. An excess of phlegm for everyone! Fools I tell you. Leave it to the adults to freak out over a home/hostel staple to contain lead and MSG. Not like cigarettes and many other products out there are any better. (The two roomies and I just finished a huge bowl of Maggi Masala noodles a few minutes ago just by the way, it was good!)

Wrote on a lot of Tables, lost the pencil.

Wrote on a lot of Tables, lost the pencil.

One roommate returned from a night out with his girlfriend (wink*) whilst the other is currently in a cute skype chat with his other. Introduced the latter to ‘Anaconda’ by Nicki Minaj and well he’s hooked. Can’t help but sing the song whenever someone nearby exclaims “Oh my god!”, which doesn’t happen as often thankfully.

I on the other hand had a nasty encounter with a dementor and was comforted with chocolate cookies and hugs. Such fun! What’s sort of concerning is the number of guys entering the room and using the hand wash on the table…I’m not even going to..nope.

Monday Tarts

Hello there, I don’t know. I’m a bit frizzed (it’s an actual word) up with my internship coming to an end. A month to myself, yes I have to use up my compulsory leaves and so on. It’s exhausting having to think of something to do the entire day, especially when I’m suffering from an extreme case of the lazy. (I just deleted an entire paragraph, cause you know, brains be crazy) Moving on,  I have shifted to a new laptop which is quite confusing because I got really comfortable with the previous keyboard. Beware of typos. I did give a trial on my last day. I was restricted to one plate, quite disappointing and at the same time made the task a bit more difficult. I wanted to show as many techniques and dishes I had learnt and perfected so far but to put on one plate would be sort of a mess, considering flavours (ooh, wordpress uses US English? whimsy) and components. A bit hypocritical to say the least because my final plate did have a lot going on, but it worked together which I was fine with.

A bit overwhelmed by the number of options open to me and having to work with tact required some time. I took some time out during the break to list down my thoughts on textures, flavours and dishes. It did help and I always had the back up of making a Panna Cotta if all else failed. Somewhat of a thing between a colleague who considers himself bad at desserts and myself, who loves to eat and the day we spent eating panna cottas that he made for his own trial. Well he had to do a 5 course meal, so he could afford a simple dessert at the end of complex menu. So apart from the deviation off topic, there is a point which is that I did have a back up.

The touchstone.

The touchstone.

Pineapples and Coconuts!

Hi there you, it’s another day, done with my work and I’m free to stay up all night as it is my off tomorrow! Great isn’t it? Well I require a good day of relaxation. The chefs had a meeting pop up out of the blue and well I was left to myself with a few cookies to wrap up. So as when I always do when I am in a room to myself, *oh not that!* I sing out loud and do the instruments to my music. Today it happened to be ‘the name game’ by Shirley Ellis. I did complete an ‘American Horror Story’ marathon a week ago and that song stuck with me. I rhymed as many names and some names weren’t meant to be rhymed, example my roomie and colleague’s nick name ‘Kappi’.

I wasn’t allowed Continue reading

To Pop the Bubble!

{NOTE: A piece I had to write detailing the events that took place. It’s quite long, so bare with.}

“I only drink Champagne on two occasions, when I’m in love, and when I’m not.”

–        Coco Chanel

What would be my preferred Beverage? If you asked me two days ago, it would have been a good milkshake. A good milkshake is the perfect comfort, that something soothing you’d want at any time in the day. This isn’t about milkshakes, but about a notoriously bubbly beverage that stole me away from my beloved milkshakes sometime in the past week. Beverages are quite important to me, alcoholic and non-alcoholic, as a study in the culinary arts. Culinary arts seemed to have confused someone recently as it had to do with the art and science of everything concerned with food, and well beverage as I mentioned earlier. As a student, I get the perks of tasting sessions and much more. The most recent tasting was around that sparkly liquid popping from the Champagne region of France. You’d have to be a buffoon if you didn’t guess so by now, but if you are that rare ignorant baboon, I quite clearly am hinting at the prestigious champagne. Words never seem to come to a halt to describe this fascinating beverage that’s won countless hearts over.

The first time I sipped on Champagne was at a party, when I was quite young and absent-mindedly Continue reading
